Free Comic Book Day 2016 Is Almost Here!

Throw on your best cape, charge up your Arc reactor and get ready to wear your undies on the outside, because it’s time for another Free Comic Book Day!

Not sure what Free Comic Book Day is? All good, MANIACs. Just check out this handy guide for a full-blown geek out.

WHAT IS FCBD?

Free Comic Book Day is an annual event that takes place the first Saturday of May (this year it’s May 7th). The day is a celebration of everything comics and manga, and, if you haven’t guessed it already, is a giveaway for free comicbooks! You read that right, YAKs, free comics!

We should clarify though, it doesn’t mean every comicbook is free, so don’t try to walk out of the store with that mint copy of Action Comics #1. There’s a set list of comics you can take, which include some awesome books like the new Captain America #1, Archie #1, Doctor Who: Who Doctors Special and SpongeBob Squarepants Freestyle Funnies.

If comics aren’t your thing, that’s okay too. There are free manga samplers available as well!

You can check the full list here

(How many comics you can take varies from store-to-store, so be sure to check first!)

HOW TO CELEBRATE IT

FCBD is basically nerd Christmas, so you’ve gotta go big when celebrating it!

All you Sydney-based YAKs should check out Books Kinokuniya, whose Free Comic Book Day is bound to pack more punch than the Hulk! They have not one, but two FCBD showbags to giveaway! The first showbag includes a copy of Civil War II #1, One Punch Man & MY Hero Academia sampler and you get to pick TWO additional free comics! The second showbag includes an exclusive Kino FCBD t-shirt and you get a graphic novel absolutely FREE! How cool is that? Be sure to get in early, because there’s limited quantities of everything!

The store is also offering 20% off all graphic novels and manga, so now’s a great time to go beef up your collection.

If you’re a cosplay fan, you can enter Kino’s annual Cosplay Comp. There’s a Best Under 12 Cosplayer section, with a grand prize of a $200 Kino gift voucher, and a $100 gift voucher for runners up.

You can also check out their Artist’ Alley and meet some of Australia’s best comic creators. You can purchase some wicked prints and comics, and maybe even get an awesome sketch of your favourite characters!

WHERE’S THE CLOSEST COMICBOOK STORE?

Not sure if your local comic-book store does FCBD, or where your local store even is? Thankfully, FCBD have an official store locator, so you can easily check where you can pick up some awesome comics!
