In case you didn’t know, Tuesday was Pancake Day (also known as Shrove Tuesday), and to celebrate, Australia has a new tallest pancake stack record! Andy started practicing six to eight weeks ago, trying all types of pancakes from chocolate to buttermilk. He discovered that buckwheat pancakes are the easiest to stack.

Run robots, run!

March 2nd, 2011 by admin | No Comments | Leave a comment | Filed in AWSM |

Japan has held the world’s first robot marathon! The marathon kicked off last Thursday in Osaka and went for 42.2km over four days. The track was only 100m so the robots had to do 423 laps of the track. The winner was Team Vstone’s Robovie-PC, which won the marathon in 54 hours, 57 minutes and 50 seconds! The two-legged robots even managed to bend their knees and raise their hands to wave at the audience while they raced!

The rules were that the robots’ batteries and motors were allowed to be changed during the race, but if the bots fell down, they had to get up themselves. Organisers hope to make the marathon an international event one day.

World’s Biggest Pizza Attempt Goes Soggy!

March 1st, 2011 by admin | No Comments | Leave a comment | Filed in AWSM |

Melbourne’s top pizza chefs tried to make the world’s biggest pizza over the weekend, but their attempts were thwarted by the rain. More than 40 chefs were going to spend 18 hours on Sunday making a 1.2km Margarita pizza on Lygon Street in Carlton, but the rain put a stop to it by soaking the crust and breaking the pizza by the time it reached just over 600m.

The record attempt required 1.5 tonnes of flour, 650kg mozarella cheese, 1 500 litres of water, 30-40kg salt, 15kg yeast and about 1.5km of chicken wire to help pull the pizza along. Organisers were planning to distribute the pizza to charities as well but say they might try again next year.
