Out of this world movie!

Wooooo! John Carter hits cinemas today! The movie’s about a guy named John Carter, who gets transported to the planet Barsoom, (which is known as Mars to us Earthlings) and ends up helping the Barsoom natives. It’s a cool action sci-fi flick and we reckon the creatures look amazing. Older YAKS will dig the battle scenes too!

Here are three facts you gotta know about Taylor Kitsch, who plays John Carter:

  • He played Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
  • His role models are Christian Bale, Matt Damon and Johnny Depp
  • He used to play ice hockey before he injured his knee.

Hey YAKS!

If you’re a Sydney MANIAC and love movies, we have just the thing for you! The Little Darlings NIGHT OWLS Kids Film Fest kicks off tonight at the Darling Quarter. Starting at 6:45pm every night until January 23 you can bring your friends and family along to watch some cool flicks for FREE! There’s a different movie every night, with classics like The Wizard of Oz and Jungle Book to recent movies like Tangled and Happy Feet. Tonight’s movie is the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!

Grab your picnic blankets and head over to the Community Green precinct at the Darling Quarter (1-25 Harbour St, Sydney) . There’s even some cool comps like ‘Best in Pyjamas‘! For more deets and to see which movies are playing, check out: www.darlingquarter.com

We’re so pumped for 2012! There are heaps of AWSM movies coming out including The PIRATES! Band of Misfits. This isn’t your typical pirate flick, it’s from the dudes behind Wallace and Gromit, Chicken Little and Arthur Christmas, so expect heaps of laughs! Have you guys seen the new flick Arthur Christmas yet? It’s about Santa’s son Arthur and his mission to deliver a forgotten Christmas present to a little girl before Christmas Day arrives. Bot Masters!

Hey there YAKS! Are you having a good week?

We wanna know if you guys have you seen the AWSM flick Real Steel yet? If not, here are three reasons why you should!

1. It has boxing robots! We’re diggin’ Atom, the old generation bot that Charlie and Max build and train, but tough guy Midas and his mohawk is pretty cool too!

2. There’s heaps of action! You’ll be on the edge of your seat watching to see who comes out on top!

3. It has a sci-fi feel to it! Real Steel is set in the future and there are some cool effects that give it a futuristic feel! Plus movie-making guru Steven Spielberg is one of the producers, so you know it’s going to be AWSM!

Spidey Stats!

Hey YAKS!

We are massive Spidey fans at MANIA HQ and we’re counting down the days until The Amazing Spider-Man hits cinemas mid next year! Before it comes out, here are some facts that you’ve gotta know about Andrew Garfield, who will be playing Peter Parker/Spider-Man!

  • Andrew is actually British and puts on an American accent for the film. We can’t even tell it’s not real!
  • Impressed by Spidey webslinging,  swinging and leaping action in the trailer? Andrew was a gymnast and a swimmer until he was 13 years old!
  • Andrew’s been a Spider-Man fan since he was a kid. His prized possession is a copy of Spider-Man Issue #6 signed by Stan Lee! Andrew even dressed up as Spider-Man when he was a kid and his brother dressed up as Superman.
  • To prepare for this iconic role, Andrew studied spiders and the way they moved and tried to incorporate as much of it as he could into his character.
  • Andrew’s signed on for The Amazing Spider-Man sequel, which is set to be released in 2014. Sweet!

The Three Musketeers: This action flick has some rad swashbuckling fun and cool old school weapons. In cinemas October 20!

Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer: This one will have you in stitches! We just love nutty Aunt Opal. In cinemas October 27!

We have Smurfs fever here at MANIA HQ and we’ve been playing some awesome online Smurfs games! One of our favourites is Clumsy’s Central Park Dash, which you can check out here.

If you haven’t already seen this hilarious flick about these little blue dudes running about New York City trying to find their way back home, what are you waiting for?! Hey MANIACS!

Funny guy Rowan Atkinson is back as nutty spy Johnny English in Johnny English Reborn! Johnny’s mastering his spy skills in a secluded part of Asia when he’s suddenly called back into action, and from the look of the trailer it seems our spy buddy is having a bit of trouble living in the modern world again. We can’t wait to see all the crazy and uber embarrassing things he does this time!
