If you’re a Sydney MANIAC and love movies, we have just the thing for you! The Little Darlings NIGHT OWLS Kids Film Fest kicks off tonight at the Darling Quarter. Starting at 6:45pm every night until January 23 you can bring your friends and family along to watch some cool flicks for FREE! There’s a different movie every night, with classics like The Wizard of Oz and Jungle Book to recent movies like Tangled and Happy Feet. Tonight’s movie is the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!

Yo YAKS, what have you guys been up to these summer holidays? We’re having heaps of fun playing backyard cricket and following the KFC T20 Big Bash League. We caught up with rising cricket batsman Chris Lynn from Brisbane Heat to see how it’s all going!
MANIA: Hi Chris! Tell us a bit about the T20 Big Bash League…
Chris: I’m from Brisbane Heat and we’ve got guys like Matthew Hayden coming in, out of retirement, Ryan Harris, Brendon McCullum and all these international players as well. The other teams also have international players like Chris Gayle and David Warner.
MANIA: How long have you been playing cricket for?
Chris: Since I was eight and now I’m 21. It’s something I love doing. I’m a bit of a competitive person, so I find it really easy playing cricket.
MANIA: What’s your batting strategy for the Big Bash League?
Chris: Just watching the ball right off the bat and keeping my head still.
MANIA: Where’s the strangest place you’ve played cricket?
Chris: I went over to Vanuatu for a mate’s wedding. He’s also a cricketer so we lined up a game against the locals. It was really good!
MANIA: What are your top tips for MANIACS who want to be cricket stars one day?

Are you pumped? School holidays are here and we’re on the hunt for cool things to do this summer…
For Melbourne MANIACS, there’s the Vegecation event from January 23-27 at the Centro Box Hill North Precinct (opposite the food court). Vegecation is a free program for MANIACS 6-15 years old, where you can learn how to grow your own veggies to chow down. Each day there’s a different veggie (including purple carrots!) so you’ll be a veggie patch pro by the end of the program! And if you really want to get your mitts dirty, there’ll be bugs there too. AWSM!

A smalltooth Sawfish has just arrived at the Sydney Aquarium! These guys are endangered species, so you’ll definitely wanna visit ‘em these school holidays! While you’re there, check out the Japanese Spider Crab and Bruce the Giant Tasmanian Crab in the CLAWS exhibition. These guys are so MASSIVE that you won’t believe your eyes!
