World’s Biggest Pizza Attempt Goes Soggy!
March 1st, 2011 by admin | Filed under AWSM |Melbourne’s top pizza chefs tried to make the world’s biggest pizza over the weekend, but their attempts were thwarted by the rain. More than 40 chefs were going to spend 18 hours on Sunday making a 1.2km Margarita pizza on Lygon Street in Carlton, but the rain put a stop to it by soaking the crust and breaking the pizza by the time it reached just over 600m.
The record attempt required 1.5 tonnes of flour, 650kg mozarella cheese, 1 500 litres of water, 30-40kg salt, 15kg yeast and about 1.5km of chicken wire to help pull the pizza along. Organisers were planning to distribute the pizza to charities as well but say they might try again next year.
